About Mum’s Homemade

Briony Bax and Margaret Heafey founded the company in January 2009.  Both ladies live down the road from each other in Piedmont, California and, following the market crash in 2008, and facing their growing children’s imminent departure to college, they decided to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Both women had cooked for crowds for many years and decided to put their knowledge of baking and jam making to the ultimate test.

They held a sale for their neighbors, which sold out in two hours flat, and then launched their first product line at their local gourmet store, Mulberry’s Market in February 2009.

All the products are made by Briony and Margaret personally at the Artisan Kitchen, a co-operative kitchen in Richmond.

Drawing upon Briony’s English heritage and upbringing, the ladies create jams and puddings reminiscent of a British childhood. The jams have large pieces of fruit, the toffee is hand cut, and the marmalades are rich and cooked in January when the fruit is in season.
